Myu
Love Letter Day 8
Love Letter Day 8 is meant to make you chuckle. I think you’ll agree this is funny:
You know how people occasionally get prepossessed by Japanese concept-words?
UMAMI! WABISABI! KINTSUGI! HENTAI!
Well I’ve been thinking about how the Japanese fetishize their own words for vacuums: mu (無) nothing, ku (空) empty, shi (死/詩) death/poetry. I’m throwing in poetry because the fascination is in their fondness for brevity in verse, the vacuum of unnecessary words. HAIKU!
So the funny thing is that I recently heard an American pronounce the word mu (which sounds like “moo”): myu
I chuckled very loudly. I thought of cows myu-ing, of people walking on the myu-n. Cows myu-ing is especially funny to me.
But how silly it will sound to you to hear me utter nothing. The vacuum I dedicate to you because its perimeter is infinite, like love.
