Boys...
At a stop light on my bike, a man pulled up on his bike next to me and said, “do you wanna race?” I guffawed thinking he was being funny. He replied, “I see. You’re too scared…” sneering as he jetted off. This was the first time I’d been misgendered.
My son had a really bad irritation on his penis, and kept proclaiming “my penis hurts!” so we took him to the emergency room where he was suddenly shy, and when the nurses asked him where he was hurting, the sheepish way he said “I hurt my penis” and looked at me, scared me. I didn’t want him to use the passive tone, for fear it would be construed as coached dialogue. I ran into a wall, I fell up the stairs, I’m clumsy. What’s wrong with me.
Today I found peace with masculine sound.
This is hopefully the first of several more videos I will publish as a culmination of my RAIR residency.
